Part of the farm I now live on is served by a gaint water tank. A few days ago this was replaced and the old tank was sliced up in order to transport it away. It remined me of a Richard Serra sculpture. Here are some shots. Last month my young son, Alex, attended an end of year party given by his nursery. The event was held in a local school called 'Colegio Salesianos'. After the event I took these shots. Haslett Joins The AIA Group

There have been no photos posted on the blog since April due to my move of house and studio from Malaga to Antequera, a small town about 45km north of Malaga. The work on the house is almost complete and so more photos should be coming soon!

The other big news is that I have been invited to join the Andalusian International Artists Group and my first AIA exhibition is already installed.
Details of the exhibition:
Location: Sala de Exposiciones del Museo Etnográfico, Riogordo, Malaga.
Preview: 2nd July, 20:30, opening times: 10:00-14:00 & 19:00–21:00, Friday to Sunday & holidays.
Exhibition continues until 30 July 2011.

Another image from the Malaga Windows series. The shop has been empty for some time and posters are pasted on the window on a reguar basis. When the posters are striped away more posters and blanking paper attached to the inside of the glass can be seen.

Here is a series of shots taken from of huge construction site in Malaga. In the centre of the excavation a wooden sail boat has been discovered. The overall effect is like a massive, ancient carcass in the middle of the city. The archeologists think it dates from the turn of the 18th century but this is still to be confirmed.

Below are results of experiments with long exposures and slow film (50 asa). Most shots were taken with a handheld camera and an exposure of 1s or more. Although I have experimented with long exposures before I decided to continue after having seeen examples of Ralph Eugene Meatyard's "no focus" photos as well as long exposure shots from Alexey Titarenko http://www.alexeytitarenko.com/.

At the weekend I re-shot a statue in the park close to my house with a combination of daylight (early morning shadow) and flash. The Metz flash was mounted on a stand to camera right. The idea is to make a series of figures lit with flash against dark backgrounds.

On our return from Uganda (see July 2010 posts 'Trip to Africa') we stopped off in Sippersveld, close to Frankfurt in Germany. The cool and dark forest was quite a contrast to the hot plains of Africa.

Two Streets, an exhibition by Magee and Haslett

Over the last few years I have been taking photos in the streets of Malaga. These are usually taken in quiet or abandoned corners of the city and are without people. Philip Magee, fellow member of Andaluz (http://andaluz-fotografias.blogspot.com/), has also been shooting in the streets. By contrast Philip's photos are mainly of the life and colour of the city's people. We thought it would make a great exhibition to put a selection of these photographs together. With the help of another Andaluz member Paul Trevor, who acted as editor, we have made a selction of 13 pairs of photos.

Trip to Uganda, post 1, Haslett Goes to Africa

About a month ago I went on a trip to Uganda. Marion, in her role as director of BHD*, is currently working together with the charity TESS** to design a new school, health centre and church in Teso, Uganda. I went along to make some pictures. The following posts show some of the results.

We visited several schools in the surrounding area to get an idea of what existing conditions were like. Due to lack of resources the class sizes are huge, often 100 to 150 children in one classroom. Even under these conditions the children were hard working, polite and greeted us like visiting royalty.

Below are a series of portraits made during my trip to Uganda. My experience was that people generally like to have their picture taken. Very often they would look directly into the camera with quite a serious expression. Perfect for a portrait photographer!

Ugandan hospitality has to be experienced to be believed. We were made to feel really welcome wherever we went. This included an endless supply of fantastic meals all prepared out in the open on wood or charcoal fires.

The abandoned factory is surrounded by a field with grazing horses. On my second visit to the building I was joined in the vast machine hall by about 15 of the fine beasts.
